Re-Homing

Re-homing Your Dog: Guidance from Heart Mountain Rescue

Re-homing a dog should be a last resort, but we understand that sometimes unexpected or unavoidable life changes can make it necessary. Heart Mountain Rescue is here to help with respect, dignity, and kindness. Note that we often operate at full capacity, so placing your dog with us may take days or weeks, and all intake requests require pre-approval.

Below are some recommendations to try prior to re-homing your dog:

Behavioral Issues

• Have your veterinarian perform a health exam

• Seek advice from a qualified trainer

Financial Constraints

• Ask your vet about payment plans

• Apply for assistance through the Heart Mountain Rescue Support Request

Before approaching a rescue, try re-homing with family or friends, ensuring all medical or behavioral issues are disclosed. For extreme cases, consult your vet or a certified behavior trainer. If humane euthanasia is recommended, it may be the kinder choice.

Should Heart Mountain Rescue be in a position to accept your dog, a Care Contribution Fee of $400 is requested to cover medical treatment, spay/neuter, and housing costs.
